Friday Favorites

Happy Friday! This week has seemed extra long. Isn't it funny how after vacation work seems ever harder? Shouldn't you be all rejuvenated and ready to go? Guess not. This week just seemed to drag on. I can't wait to get home, take some outfit pics, go for a run and then spend the rest of the weekend hanging out and being a bum. I'm hoping that Jason and I get some quality computer time in tonight, mostly because this video has me aching to game:

Aside from dorking out, I spent waaaay too much time this week catching up on blogs. I had almost a thousand unread posts in my bloglovin! That's what happens when you don't check in for a week. Oof. But here are a few of my favorite things from this week.

I always love the dress up photoshoots on Hello it's Valentine. With the books are creepy masks this one is especially awesome. I want friends who will do things like this with me.

How adorable is this jacket from Fancy Treehouse?! I know it is way too hot to think about buying jackets, but I would have bought this in a second. Luckily for my wallet it was already sold. Damn.

The Dainty Squid posted a tutorial on how to paint triangles on your nails. I tried it out this morning and I love it! Next time I will try a color combo that is more drastic. Also, I finally caved and downloaded Instagram. my allegiance still lies with hipstamatic, but I love that you can follow people on Instagram. If you have Instagram leave me a comment and I'll follow you. My user name is hans_banans.

I'm crazy about this wooden locket from the So Little Time etsy store. I'm really trying to cut down on my spending, but this locket might be worth a bit of a splurge.

(PS I decided to move my favorite things to Fridays because, well, I like alliteration. Also I want to start doing a weekly science post which was supposed to be on Wednesdays, but I obviously don't have time to do that since I have only done one so far, haha. So I'm moving that to Saturdays. Also, see above, re: alliteration).

A pharmer's clothes: July 28, 2011

Today was one of those morning when I tried on about ten different outfits. The fact that I knew today would be uber hot, and that I have not done laundry in about three weeks did not help my indecision. I ended up deciding to wear this top, which I bought at H&M a few weeks ago without trying on. Bad plan. I think it may be one of those things that looks better on a less endowed lady. I was going to return it, but like a good procrastinator of course I never did, and now it is too late. But not too worry, I decided to pair it with another article of clothing that doesn't quite fit me, these red shorts. I saw these online at UO and had to have them. Red, high wasted, pockets, scallop trim - what's not to love amirite?? Only problem is they look much better when you are not moving. So I decided to levitate all the way to lab today, problem solved.

Actually, I just really liked this outfit (stripes + red = win), even if it is not the most flattering for my body type.  Do you ever wear things that feel better than they look?

PS I know this post was weird. What can I say, I'm tired and it's almost the weekend. My brain is donezo for the day.

Colorado love

I'm sure you all are sick of hearing me gush about Colorado, but this is the last post on it, I promise! I had a mind-blowingly perfect time this past week. I really can't wait to move back west. The East Coast is great, but Colorado is home. I mean, just look at these pictures! What more could you ask for? I also took some 360 shots on my iPhone here and here.

P.S. This is where our friends got married. Yep, I'm jealous.

A pharmer's clothes: July 26, 2011

So this outfit is pretty much pajamas. Awesome sauce. Perfect for those first days back after vacation. You know, those days when you feel like you could really use a post-vacation vacation? Yep, that's where I'm at.

I got this t-shirt from what may be the best website in the world, ThinkGeek. If you are a geek, or you know a geek, you must check out this site. They have so much amazing nerd porn (not literally - ew). I could, and have, spent hours perusing their site. My most recent purchase was this Protoss shirt, which at the time only came in XL and XXL. I went ahead and bought the XL thinking that I would alter it myself. Obviously I have not done that yet. Oh silly past Hannah, you forgot how lazy present Hannah is! But does that stop me from wearing this shirt? Of course not. Because I just can't pass up any opportunity to nerd out.

FYI, they now have this shirt in every size. And on sale. Laaaame. I'm still happy I bought it when I did, otherwise I never would have been able to take this picture:

Oh, you know, just three nerds in SC2 shirts taking a jumping picture in front of the South Korean embassy, nbd.

In an attempt to make this outfit a little less like pajamas, I tried to spice things up with this detachable peter pan collar. Only problem is that the collar is a deep red/burgundy, so you really can't see it. Oh well, I knew it was there and it made me happy, as well as providing my neck with some much needed warmth. Just kidding, it is like a sauna here. Cool mountain weather, I miss you!

My favorite things - Colorado edition

By now I'm sure you've figured out that I'm obsessed with Colorado. Just a bit. I miss it like crazy. So, for this week's favorite things I'm sharing a few of my favorite pictures I've taken around Colorado over the years.

Skiing at A-basin. Obviously one of the things I miss most about Colorado is the skiing!

Free jazz concert at City Park in Denver. In the summer there is a concert every Sunday. Loads of people come out and have picnics. Excellent people watching.

Course summit at the Bolder Boulder - 5,391 feet. The Bolder Boulder is one of the largest 10K races in America. The energy of the race is fantastic. Houses on the course do all sorts of fun things like hand out bacon, play live music, and set up slip'n'slides.  Since I went to college in Boulder this race is always a blast. Sea level is for sissies!

Jason and me at the summit of Monarch Pass, circa 2008. Monarch takes you into Gunnison valley, which is amazingly gorgeous. I might do a whole post on Monday of pictures I've taken up here.

A pharmer's clothes: July 20, 2011

Reason number bajillion why I love Denver: street art. Tons of buildings have awesome murals like this one on the sides. Other than making great backdrops for pictures, I like how these murals add some flavor to the city. I know I know, I'm such a Denver fan girl.

I took these pictures at a business that's on Colfax Ave. If you are a faithful watcher of South Park you might have seen a few references to Colfax (Casa Bonita Casa Bonita, dun na na na na). The street has a reputation for being a mecca for the less than savory aspects of life (think drug deals and prostitution). Although in recent years Colfax has really been cleaned up (at least in some areas), and actually has a lot of my favorite bars. If you are ever visiting Denver, do yourself a favor, ignore all the negativity and spend some time exploring Colfax. Although, I'd still stick to the buddy system at night, but hey, you only live once, right?

Here's a pretty good outtake. My camera kept acting up and I couldn't tell if the self-timer was working or not, causing me to make this face:

Classic.

A pharmer's clothes: July 19, 2011

Jason and I are in Colorado this week, and I must say that so far it has been amazing! We've spent a lot of time with family and friends visiting all my old favorite Denver haunts. I will be in Denver until tomorrow, and then in the mountains for the rest of the week. I can't wait to get out of the heat - I think it's hotter in Denver than DC this week!

Originally, Jason and I tried to take pictures inside Union Station in downtown Denver. No more trains are coming to Union Station anymore, so technically it's closed, although you can still go inside and walk around. It seemed perfect because it was almost completely deserted and who doesn't love a train station? But my poor little camera just could not handle the indoor lighting. The pictures kept coming out blurry, despite my best statue imitation. So instead, Jason and I walked up to Millennium Bridge, where there is a nice view of downtown. Oh, except they have started all this construction since I moved away, so the view isn't quite what I remember. Check back in a few years, and I'm sure it will be gorgeous. Apparently, Union Station is supposed to be the new "hub" of downtown in the next few years.

It is so nice to be home. I miss Colorado like crazy. Living in a different place has really made me realize how much I love Denver. I know it's not exactly the most cosmopolitan of places, but for me Denver is just the right amount of city. I love the character here. Everything is just a little funky and beat up, but not so much that's it's obnoxious. I'm enjoying living in DC, but I can't wait to move back to Denver. What can I say, I guess I'm just a Colorado girl through and through.

Holga photos

Last month I impulse bought a Holga. In high school I really enjoyed film photography, and in college I was all about polaroids. Now that polaroid film cost an arm and a leg, I wanted to try something new. I picked up a 35 mm Holga from Urban Outfitters (I know I know, how hipster of me). I've gotten two rolls of film developed so far and I love it! Both these rolls were taken with 100 ISO film that was pushed one step (that means it was developed like 200 ISO film, which ups the contrast). I'm hooked.

I am double exposure obsessed.

Beantown Pub, the only bar where you can drink a Sam Adams and have a view of Sam Adam's grave.

Notice the floating swan in the corner? lol
